#BeActive with Back2Track at Easter

On April 25, 2019, on St. Nedelya square in Sofia, a children’s sports holiday with outdoor games for the youngest was held, organized by the Bulgarian Sports Development Association (BSDA), Darko Team Athletics club, and the Association of Bulgarians wit COPD and asthma (ABBA). Along with the sports games, over 200 children from 4 kindergartens and 8 schools participated in painting of eggs, which after the decoration were given to the social kitchen in the courtyard of the church “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”at 47 Georg Vashington Str. The children took part in a religious procession, which started from the “St. Sunday” church, with the blessing of Bishop Polycarp of Belogradchik and was led by clergymen of the Sofia Diocese.

The event was organized by Sofia’s Holy Metropolis, Sunday School at the Nativity of Christ Church, Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria and Sofia Municipality. The dyes for the eggs are a donation to the cause of the “Save an Icon”, through which Sunday-school kids help their cancer peers.

During the event the participants were acquainted with the activities of the “Back2Track” project, which the Bulgarian Sports Development Association is coordinating and it’s aiming at analyzing the differences and similarities that sport clubs have in the approach to professional and grassroots sport and in innovative approach of including kids with disadvantage background in sport and physical activity. The project is aiming to find the way of bringing practical skills and knowledge in the participating organizations on how to manage a grassroots sport programme together with the elite sport programmes. In May 2019, Bulgaria is going to host a children’s athletics contest in which children from Croatia and Belgium are going to participate, and the main organizer of the event is the KLASA Athletics Club, which is a partner in the Back2Track project co-funded by Erasmus+ Programme.
